The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
