۞ It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful." 189 Yet when He gave both of them (the parents) a goodly child, they set up associates with Him, in return for what He had given them. Exalted be Allah above that they associate with Him. 190 Attribute they as partners to Allah those who created naught, but are themselves created, 191 Who can neither help them, nor help themselves? 192 And if ye call them toward guidance they follow you not: it is the same to you whether ye call them or are silent. 193 Those whom you invoke other than Allah are creatures like you. So invoke them. and see if they answer your call, if what you claim is true. 194 Do they have feet to walk on, or hands to hold with, or eyes to see and ears to hear with? Say to them: "Call your compeers, and work out a plot against me, and do not give me time. 195 Verily, my protector is God, who has bestowed this divine writ from on high: for it is He who protects the righteous, 196 whereas all those whom you invoke in His stead are neither able to give you succour nor can succour themselves; 197 If you call them to guidance, they will not hear you. You see them looking towards you, but they cannot see. 198 Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them). 199 If Satan will try to seduce you, seek refuge from God. God is All-hearing and All-knowing. 200 Verily those who fear God think of Him when assailed by the instigations of Satan, and lo! they begin to understand, 201 and their brothers they lead on into error, then they stop not short. 202 And whenever thou bringest not unto them, as a sign, they say: wherefore hast not thou selected it? Say thou: I only follow that which hath been revealed unto me by my Lord. This is an enlightenment from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy unto a people who believe. 203 When the Qur'an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy. 204 And remember thou thy Lord within thyself with humility and fear, without loudness in word, in the morning and evenings; and be thou not of the negligent. 205 [even] the ones [angels] who live in the presence of your Lord are not too proud to worship Him: they glorify Him and prostrate themselves before Him. ۩ 206
