The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
