The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
