The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
