The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
