So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 Therefore go forth with your followers in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round, and go forth whither you are commanded. 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 it is still there on the highway -- 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79
