AND THEY will ask thee about [the nature of] divine inspiration. Say: "This inspiration [comes] at my Sustainer's behest; and [you cannot understand its nature, O men, since] you have been granted very little of [real] knowledge." 85 If We pleased We could take away what We have revealed to you. Then you will not find any one to plead for it with Us, 86 Except as a mercy from thy Lord verily His grace unto thee is ever great. 87 Say, "If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants." 88 And assuredly We have variously propounded for mankind in this Qur'an every kind of similitude, yet most men have refused everything except infidelity. 89 They said: "We shall not accept your Message until you cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth; 90 “Or you have a garden of date-palms and grapes, and you make gushing rivers to flow in it.” 91 or cause the sky to fall on us in pieces as you claimed, or bring Allah and the angels before us, face to face; 92 Or thou have a house of gold; or thou ascend up into heaven, and even then we will put no faith in thine ascension till thou bring down for us a book that we can read. Say (O Muhammad): My Lord be Glorified! Am I aught save a mortal messenger? 93
