Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
