Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
