Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
