Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
