Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 "The One Who created me, so He will guide me." 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 "And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me." 80 "And He will give me death, then resurrect me." 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
