The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
