[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 177 I am a trustworthy Messengers. 178 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 179 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure and do not diminish the goods of people, 181 weigh with an even balance 182 "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief. 183 And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old. 184 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 185 And thou art but a human being like unto us, and we deem thee to be of the liars. 186 So cause thou a fragment of the heaven to fall upon us, if thou art of the truth-tellers. 187 He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do." 188 They rejected him, and then had to suffer the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom. That was indeed the punishment of an awful day. 189 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 190 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
