And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. 33 We have laid out gardens of dates and grapes upon it, and made springs of water flow, 34 So that they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Glory be to Him, who created all the pairs of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they know not. 36 Of the signs for them is how We separated the day from the night and thus they remained in darkness; 37 And the sun runs his course for a period determined for him: that is the decree of (Him), the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing. 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law). 40 And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship. 41 and then created for them other vessels like those on which they ride. 42 And if We please, We can drown them, then there shall be no succorer for them, nor shall they be rescued 43 Unless by Our benevolence, to reap advantage for a time. 44 Whenever they are told to guard themselves against sin and the forth coming torment so that perhaps they could receive mercy 45 And never came an Ayah from among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it. 46 And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error." 47 Further, they say, "When will this promise (come to pass), if what ye say is true?" 48 They are only waiting for a single blast that will seize them, but they will go on contending. 49 No (chance) will they then have, by will, to dispose (of their affairs), nor to return to their own people! 50
