NAY, but consider the moon! 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 it is a warning to man, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
