۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
