۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
