۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
