And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They used to say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
