And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 They used to say before: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 will certainly be victorious 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
