S (Saad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the renowned Qur'an, 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved! 3 They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar. 4 Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” 5 And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after. 6 We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. 7 Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. 8 Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 A very host of parties is routed there! 11 The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates. 13 None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. 14
