Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 THE BESTOWAL from on high [of this revelation] issues from the Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace: 2 A Book whose signs have been distinguished as an Arabic Koran for a people having knowledge, 3 A bearer of glad tidings and a warner. Yet most of them turn aside, so that they hearken not. 4 And they say: our hearts are under veils from that whereunto thou callest us, and in our ears there is heaviness, and betwixt us and thee there is a curtain; work thou then, verily we are workers. 5 Say, O [Muhammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allah - 6 Those who do not give the obligatory charity, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 For those who believe and do good works is an enduring wage' 8
