Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
