He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
