Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
