Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 And those who bear the load of rain, 2 And those that glide with ease (upon the sea) 3 And the angels who distribute the affair. 4 Undoubtedly, the promise you are given is surely true. 5 And verily the Requital is surely to befall. 6 CONSIDER the firmament full of starry paths! 7 Most surely you are at variance with each other in what you say, 8 He is turned away from it who would be turned away. 9 Perish the conjecturers 10 they who blunder along, in ignorance lost 11 They ask: "When is the Day of Judgement?" -- 12 On that Day they shall be tried at the Fire, 13 Taste your persecution! this is what you would hasten on. 14 Surely the godfearing shall be among gardens and fountains 15 Receiving what is given them by their Lord. They were surely the virtuous before this. 16 They slept but a little at night, 17 And ere the dawning of each day would seek forgiveness, 18 and [would assign] in all that they possessed a due share unto such as might ask [for help] and such as might suffer privation. 19 For those with sure belief there are signs in the earth, 20 And in your own selves; so can you not perceive? 21 And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised. 22 And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it is the truth, even as (it is true) that ye speak. 23
