The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
