The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
