The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
