The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And the swollen sea 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
