The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and banana trees, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
