The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
