The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
