The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
