The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
