The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
