The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
