The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
