The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
