The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 for those on the Right, 38
