The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
