The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
