The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
