The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
