These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
