▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
a multitude of the ancients, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
