A multitude of those of old 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
