A company of the former peoples 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
