a large group of the earlier people 39 and a good many of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
